Stronger defence by stronger industry

The EPP Group welcomes the European Commission’s Defence Omnibus Simplification proposal and stresses the need for its swift adoption to strengthen Europe’s defence capabilities.

"We need to invest more - in a coordinated and faster manner - in our defence. Our urgent duty as European legislators is to ensure that the legal framework supports these essential investments. Cutting bureaucracy is especially crucial: defence is now a European priority and must not be obstructed by unnecessary legal hurdles," says Christian Ehler MEP, EPP Group spokesman on industry.

"These changes will ensure that our defence industry is equipped to meet the dual challenge: an immediate, large-scale increase in production, the long-term structural development of resilience and innovation capabilities, and the long-term development of resilience, innovation, and a future-proof European Defence and Technological Industrial Base," Ehler added.

“Strengthening Europe’s defence industry is vital for our strategic autonomy and security. This omnibus proposal is a crucial step toward ensuring our defence capabilities respond more quickly and effectively to geopolitical challenges — with less red tape,” emphasises Nicolas Pascual de la Parte MEP, EPP Group spokesman on security and defence.

“We must decide and deliver at full speed as time is of the essence,” reminds Pascual de la Parte.
